God has given instructions to believers on how we are to respond to those in authority over us in government, though not only in government, but also among church leadership. Pastors, elders, have a responsibility to love the sheep, feed the sheep, protect the flock from wolves, and to be an example for the sheep to follow. And the believers have a responsibility to heed the things they are taught from their leaders from God’s word.

Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. —I Timothy 5:17
